Thank you for supporting the 2009 Penn Pull Down Bouldering Competition

Thank you for supporting the 2009 Penn Pull Down Bouldering Competition. As the chalk dust settled we tallied 33 competitors with a large gallery of 50 spectators. The grand prizes included a choice of $50 gift certificates to the Birchrunville Store Café tucked in Lowe Alpine’s Multipitch Pods, a set of quickdraws from Cypher or a Hera hangboard from Etch. EMS raffled off a 45 liter backpack and Red Bull energized our comp by providing unlimited supply of drinks.

Tecnu Extreme/StaphAseptic adventure racing presses on at PQ

Tecnu Extreme/StaphAseptic presses on at the hardest endurance race in the world, the PrimalQuest in South Dakota. Still holding steady in 10th place, the team continues to do well despite having lost 15 hours pushing their bikes after a broken derhailer reduced them to walking early on in the race. Departures is currently playing coast to coast on the Outdoor Life Network every night at 8pm, 11pm and 2am, as well as Sunday nights at 7pm, 10pm and 1am. Peregrine falcon research (cliff nesting raptors)

As an up-date- we have set Thermal tabs (temperature sensors about the size of a quarter) into two peregrine falcon eyries and placed two on a cliff face in order to characterize the thermal profile of a wild nest. This is important in that unlike all the “urban” nesting sites, cliff locations only offer thermal regulation through solar activity.
